Video of the Week: Google Tag Manager

We frickin’ love Google’s Tag Manager (GTM) here, and we’re not ashamed to admit it.

On the face of it, having one central place to add all your website tags (e.g. Facebook’s pixel code) seems like a bit of overkill.

However, GTM is so much more than a repository for code.

Use of Triggers

For example, you can use triggers to determine which pages get which code injections.

Or, if you’re like us and fed up of your analytics being messed up by those 0.5 second bounces (that are likely bots anyway), then you can set a trigger to delay the firing of a tag.

In other words, by delaying your Google Analytics script for just 10 seconds, you will only track those visitors who are real and serious about reading your stuff.

Geeky, but hugely helpful.

Recording events

It doesn’t stop there.

Ever wanted to trigger a goal on a video play? What about creating a FB custom audience from those visitors who clicked your ‘see pricing’ button?

With GTM it’s a cinch.

Well not a cinch, but it’s pretty straightforward when you know what you’re doing. So today we bring you the best introduction to GTM we could find.

With over 50,000 subscribers, Jason Whaling has earned his place in the digital marketing hall of fame.

This is his excellent introduction to GTM, that anyone can use to get started. Enjoy!
