Warning: Log in by 11th December or Twitter May Delete Your Account

As Search Engine Journal warns, Twitter is planning to delete inactive accounts in an effort to free up usernames for other people.

According to the BBC’s David Lee, the Twitter account purge will take place on December 11th and include accounts that have been inactive for more than 6 months.

“Inactive” refers to accounts that haven’t logged in for the past 6 months – so an account that doesn’t engage with anything is still considered active as long as it has logged in.

Twitter will notify owners of inactive accounts of the pending deletion, giving them an opportunity to log in and save their account if they want to keep it.

It’s unclear what will happen to bot accounts that are never actually logged into by a human user. They may avoid the chopping block as long as they’ve been publishing tweets.

So, this could be your chance to get the username you’re after which is being used by an inactive account. But you’ll need to be quick!
